About Yoga
Yoga and its meaning…
We all have heard about yoga, practiced it in some shape or form and we all know that we should be doing more of it. But why?
There is so many definitions of yoga but the one I like the most is “unitive discipline”. Yoga in Sanskrit can mean both “union” and “discipline”. Union meaning to connect to your inner awareness and to the divine. Discipline is the effort and attention given to your spiritual practice. To achieve anything takes awareness, co-creation and discipline.
The Asana (the physcial practice) is the third limb of the Pantaji’s Eight Limbs of Yoga. The first two are about moral dispicline/ vows and your observance and actions to the world around you.
To move through the 8 limbs to follow on from your asana is the practice of your Pranayama (breath), Witdrawal, mastering your mind in the preparation of meditation and to the last limb of enlightenment and bliss which yogis call Samadhi. To get to Samadhi, it takes a unitive discipline and a realisation that yoga is so much more than the physical practice.
Yoga for me…
I drifted in and out of yoga for a few years now and just over a year ago I got the divinie guidance to do Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training and I resisted because it was never in my scope to become a yoga teacher and if was doing it, all I wanted to teach was Yin Yoga. The other part of the divine guidance was to train with Power Living Australia. Once I completed my training, it was clear why I needed to do it and especially with Power Living. It had brought all my skills and knowledge that I’ve gained in the last few years in clinic into one place and in physical place where I could teach to masses and the Power Living training was structured and relevant to what we were learning.
Yoga for me is your mat becoming the mirror of your life. It becomes a place of great discoveries, transformation and helps strengthen your mind to deal with the everyday.
“For those who seek liberation wholeheartedly, realization is near. How near depends on whether the practice is mild, moderate, or intense”. Pantjali’s Yoga Sutras 1.21 and 1.22
